Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, and other health care professionals in New Jersey who are involved in the care of persons.

Statement of Need

Influenza can be a serious illness for people of any age. Every year, more than 200,000 people across the United States are hospitalized and at 36,000 people die as a result of the flu.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this learning activity, the reader should be able to:

- Understand the clinical aspects and community impact of influenza
- Describe indications for the use of flu vaccine
- Describe laboratory testing available for influenza
- Understand what role they play
in tracking & controlling influenza in NJ

Method of Instruction

Participants should read the learning objectives and review the activity in its entirety. After reviewing the material, complete the self-assessment test consisting of a series of multiple-choice and True/ False questions. Upon completing this activity as designed and achieving a passing score of 70% or more on the self-assessment test, participants will receive a credit letter and the test answer key four (4) weeks after receipt of the self-assessment test, registration, and evaluation materials. Estimated time to complete this activity as designed is 2 hours.

Accreditation

Physicians: UMDNJ–Center for Continuing and Outreach Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

UMDNJ–Center for Continuing and Outreach Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM.  Physician should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

General CEUs: UMDNJ-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education certifies that this program meets the criteria for up to 0.1 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), provided the activity is completed as designed. Once CEU equals 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction
