FACULTY

Michael Graff, MD is the Director of the Division of Neonatology at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, and the President of the Monmouth-Ocean Perinatal Consortia.   He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a clinical associate professor of pediatrics at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Jill Menell, MD is Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ and assistant professor of pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Cornell University Medical College. She is an active member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Lawrence Silverman, MD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and an attending physician at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ.  He has been the local Principal Investigator in a number of clinical research projects, many of which focused on growth hormone deficiency in children.

Robert Zanni, MD is Director of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine and Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center at the Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of several other professional associations.  He is actively involved in several ongoing research projects focusing on cystic fibrosis.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, and other health care professionals in New Jersey who are involved in the care of persons.

STATEMENT OF NEED

Physicians and other healthcare professionals will be updated regarding expanded state-mandated newborn screening including the process of screening and testing, testing methodologies (MS/MS), overview of the disorders and their management, interpretations of results, initial diagnostic measures, emergency management of these disorders, and the availability of state services.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION

Participants should read the learning objectives and review the activity in its entirety (four video presentations). After reviewing the material, complete the self-assessment test consisting of a series of multiple-choice and True/ False questions. Upon completing this activity as designed and achieving a passing score of 70% or more on the self-assessment test and completing an activity evaluation, participants will receive a credit letter within three business days.

Accreditation

Physicians: UMDNJ–Center for Continuing and Outreach Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

UMDNJ–Center for Continuing and Outreach Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM.  Physician should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

General CEUs: UMDNJ-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education certifies that this program meets the criteria for up to 0.175 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), provided the activity is completed as designed. Once CEU equals 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction.
