The purpose of the Continuing Medical Education Committee of New Jersey Medical School is the oversight and approval of continuing education activities offered by New Jersey Medical School with the cooperation of the Center for Continuing and Outreach Education (CCOE) of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The Committee shall determine that the continuing medical education activities offered by New Jersey Medical School meet the requirements of the regulatory bodies including the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and shall be of the highest quality.
In cooperation with the CCOE, the Committee shall assume responsibility for assuring that activities submitted for approval provide that:
- Adequate documentation of “Needs Assessment” is obtained from both medical staff and practitioners in the regional area served.
- The target audience is identified and includes physicians, residents and medical students as well as other health care providers for appropriate topics.
- The learning objectives of each activity are clearly identified.
- The activity content and delivery mechanisms are appropriate for the target audience.
- There is an appropriate evaluation instrument offered to assess the effectiveness of instruction.
- There is a mechanism to assure that the ethics of the medical profession and the policies of the University are maintained.
Specific content areas may include presentation of new devices, techniques, pharmacologic options, innovative therapies or interventional approaches for the diagnosis and/or management of medical conditions. The content areas may also include reviews of the basic sciences and medical practices as determined by the needs of the target audience prior to implementation of the program.
Types of activities to be offered may include, but are not limited to, formal lectures, panel discussions, question and answer sessions, workshops, exhibits, demonstrations, case studies and presentations, poster sessions, and interactive symposia including problem based learning sessions, telesymposia and web-based learning.
CME activities will involve New Jersey Medical School Faculty as providers of education but may utilize outside providers as appropriate.
