UMDNJ-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education
Guidelines for Activity Approval

Certification of a CME activity by UMDNJ, via Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), requires that UMDNJ-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education (UMDNJ- CCOE), as the accredited provider, accept responsibility that all ACCME’s Accreditation Policies and Procedures are met.  UMDNJ-CCOE must be able to provide ACCME written documentation that demonstrates how each certified CME activity was planned and implemented in compliance with their policies and procedures.

The following steps must be followed in order to obtain activity approval:

  • Contact the Center for Continuing and Outreach Education as early as possible to clear proposed dates for the CME activity.  A CCOE professional staff member should be involved in the planning as early as possible.
  • Complete a UMDNJ Activity Planning Worksheet for review by UMDNJ-CCOE and the continuing education committee of the appropriate school or organizational unit of the university.   The Activity Planning Worksheet must include:
    • A draft of the agenda including topics and faculty.
    • Needs Assessment - Documentation of how the need for the activity was determined.
    • Learning objectives indicating knowledge or skills to be gained by the participants.
    • Budget/estimated cost for the activity.
