CALL TO ORDER:

The meeting was called to order at 4:00p.m.

SALIENT ISSUES:

  • Dr. Lindenthal introduced Dr. Kathryn Pokorny of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
  • The Committee discussed attendance issues and agreed to create a more detailed policy at its forthcoming meeting.
  • Dr. Lindenthal presented a report on the CME Leadership Committee meeting which took place at Liberty Plaza on January 11th including how RWJMS sponsors Grand Rounds for surrounding area hospitals and charges a fee. Dr. Lindenthal suggested that the CME Committee consider the possibility of NJMS sponsoring Grand Rounds to local area hospitals. Dr. Baker suggested contacting hospitals in the Western part of the state. Tristan Nelsen, Drs. Baker and Lindenthal will meet to discuss sponsorship of Grand Rounds in surrounding hospitals. Included in the CME Leadership report was the Janssen Pharmaceutical grant support for RWJMS Grand Rounds activities.
  • A suggestion was offered that the committee meets with Dr. George F. Heinrich to pursue the possibility of inviting NJMS alumni to attend Grand Rounds in our School.
  • The committee discussed the successful CME workshop held on January 10th whose purpose was to foster communication between the CCOE and the various departments in the Medical School, describe the history, nature and purpose of the CCOE and review the appropriate way in which Grand Rounds forms need to be completed. The second workshop is to be held on Monday, January 24th.
  • A second series of two workshops are planned for the month of March during which appropriate faculty and interested parties will be instructed in the steps necessary to mount traditional CME programs.
  • The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 16th at 4:15 pm in UH C455.
