2011 Off To a Good Start: CCOE receives ASWB Provider Approval

UMDNJ-CCOE started the New Year on a positive note by receiving approval as an Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Provider.

The ASWB is comprised of social work regulatory boards from jurisdictions throughout the United States the Canada. Approval through ACE means that a continuing education provider has met rigorous standards, and can provide social workers with high quality learning activities.

With this recognition, CCOE will be able to enhance our program offerings, and provide more health care educational opportunities for social workers. CCOE will also receive relevant, timely information from the Association of Social Work Boards on continuing education issues in individual jurisdictions, including what kinds of courses are being accepted by licensing boards and general trends in continuing competence.

We will keep you posted on any new developments that occur in reference to CCOE’s ACE provider status. If you have any questions about this topic, please contact Elizabeth Ward at wardes@umdnj.edu.

Frontiers in Reproductive Endocrinology

In partnership with UMDNJ-CCOE, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School will sponsor a 4-day meeting: Frontiers in Reproductive Endocrinology: A Comprehensive Review and Update at the Marriott Key Bridge in Arlington, VA. This CME conference will take place on March 3 through 6, and will address the educational needs of Physicians, Embryologists, Geneticists, Researchers, and other health professionals with interests in reproductive endocrinology, genetics, and ART. Registrants from other disciplines (medical endocrinology; pediatric endocrinology) will gain insights into treatment and practice patterns in reproductive endocrinology and genetics. We particularly encourage clinical fellows to attend.

This course is designed to provide the latest information on the mechanism, diagnosis, and treatment of a broad range of reproductive endocrine disorders. In addition to didactic presentations, diagnostic dilemmas reflecting the breadth of reproductive endocrinology will be presented for problem-solving by the faculty and participants. Interactive problem-solving exercises at the conclusion of each day using audience response pads (ARPs) will cover a broad range of endocrine disorders and infertility. These sessions are designed to filter the evidence appropriate to each patient through an interpreted and individualized approach. In addition to diagnosis and management, emphasis will be placed on the scope and limitations of different diagnostic interventions and the use of evidence-based medicine in deciphering infertility problems. The venue selected for the meeting is particularly conducive to easy interaction with faculty and registrants.

This activity has a $50.00 registration fee and will award up to 33.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Motivational Interviewing - Basics and Beyond at RWJ

In partnership with UMDNJ-CCOE, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and University Behavioral HealthCare will sponsor the one-day seminar entitled: Motivational Interviewing- Basics & Beyond, at 335 George Street, 3rd Floor Training Room in New Brunswick. This CME activity will take place on Friday, April 29, 2011, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Facilitated by activity director, Marc L. Steinberg, PhD, an assistant professor of psychiatry and Member, Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers in the Division of Addiction Psychiatry at UMDNJ- RWJMS, Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change. It is a complex method, and it takes time before becoming highly skilled. This training will help you to learn from your patients in your real life practice. You will learn to recognize patient cues telling you if you are eliciting and strengthening motivation for change or if your clients are becoming more likely to sustain current, unhealthy behaviors.

Upon completion of this activity participants (physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, social workers) should be able to successfully utilize the concepts of motivational interviewing in order to promote lifestyle and behavior changes to empower their patients to chose a healthier lifestyle. Participants should have a basic understanding of MI, however advanced skills are unnecessary.

This activity has a $125.00 registration fee and will award up to 7 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
