OVERVIEW
New Jersey law now requires physicians to be trained in cultural competency. This seminar will highlight some of the pitfalls of failing to address cultural issues in medical practice. Practical risk management strategies will be presented, including community leadership input, documentation and interpretation practices, and developing a patient-family framework for cultural input.
OBJECTIVES 
By participating in the symposium, participants will complete the following learning objectives:
- Identify the major risk issues in cultural competency in medicine
- Explain the relationship between language and culture in the delivery of
medical care
- Articulate the liability issues involved in cultural competency failures
- Describe risk management strategies for managing cultural competency in
medical practice
