OVERVIEWtop

Explosive incidents comprise a significant proportion of terrorist events around the world. Numerous explosive incidents have occurred in the United States. Recent events, including the April 15, 2013 Boston Marathon explosive terrorism, highlight the need to coordinate the response of health care, emergency management, and law enforcement to protect responders, save lives and limbs of victims, and preserve the crime scene for evidence gathering and forensics.

TARGET AUDIENCEtop

This conference is designed for individuals involved in emergency response during disasters and major emergencies in the fields of health care, public health, emergency medical services, emergency management, law and public safety, and homeland security.

OBJECTIVES top

By participating in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Review the physics of explosions and the types of trauma experienced by victims
  • Recognize the aims, strategies, and methods of securing blast scene environments
  • Describe the decision making and interventions used in blast scene medical management
  • Explain the approaches to preserve the crime scene for evidence gathering and forensics

The conference content will be presented by a multidisciplinary group of subject matter experts from the fields of healthcare, emergency management, and law enforcement.

In order to obtain an attendance certificate for this activity, participants are required to sign in at the Registration Desk, attend the activity, and complete the Activity Evaluation Form. A letter certifying your attendance will be mailed to you within 4 weeks.

Conference attendance is FREE OF CHARGE for participants; however, registration is required.
